A Sunny Day at Sea

On April 2, 2026,

The morning began sunny, with a moderate breeze gently brushing against the somewhat choppy waves. At 10:30 a.m., we departed from the marina, heading toward the East Cape. The itinerary included a stop near the lighthouse area before returning to San José Bay.

Surprising Marine Encounters

During our outing, marine activity was constant and exciting. We observed mobulas leaping from the water, delighting us with their acrobatic jumps. We were also fortunate to spot a sea lion near the estuary. These initial encounters were just a preview of what was yet to come.

The Wonderful Spectacle of Humpback Whales

As our adventure continued, we identified a group of more than six humpback whales swimming north. They were males engaged in complex courtship behavior, accompanying two females while remaining in motion. This type of interaction is essential to their mating rituals and was fascinating to witness.

However, the most special moment occurred when several of the whales surfaced to breathe very close to our vessel. The sound of their exhalation was clear and powerful, filling the air with a resonance that stayed with us. Though brief, this moment was deeply captivating and became one of the most vivid memories of the trip.

The experience was dynamic, full of activity and unforgettable moments. These close encounters with marine life—especially the majestic humpback whales—reminded us of the beauty of our oceans and the importance of preserving them.
